Message Board Post:

During my search I found Patience Jay born 10 Apr 1794 in South Caroloina and Died around 1862 in Fairfield, Howard, Indiana. She was the Daughter of Layton Jay and Elizabeth Mills. She had two Sons (Anderson and Alfred A.Jay) and one Daughter (Elizabeth Jay), apparently out of wedlock as There is no record of her Spouse. Her use of the Jay name for her Children brings up many questions. Was her Spouse really a Jay or did she just use the name because she did not want her parents to know who the Father or Fathers were. Unless the decendants of Anderson and Alfred A.Jay can prove that they are indeed Jays by DNA Test,I would think they are not related to the William 1711/1720, William 1740, Layton Jay 1771 line.
