My mothers maiden name was Jago and I am trying to trace her family who were believed to originate in Cornwall.
Her great grandfathers' name was Walter Jago who was born about 1840. He left England for New Zealand where he married Amelia Matilda Slingo in 1867. His marriage certificate does not give his parents name or his place of birth or his date of birth, he occupation was listed as a cook.
After 3 years in New Zealand he moved to Melbourne, Australia where he worked as a butcher.
It is believed that he had a brother named Charles who also ended up in Melbourne.
Any assistance appreciated!
