I am looking for any information pertaining to the Hogans of Co. Mayo.
Before being Anglicized as Hogan, the name was Hohegan, of which there were
still 5 of the surname in the Griffiths Valuation. My family came from
Foxford/Swinford, migrated to England in mid-1850s & then to Ohio in
mid-1870s. The progenitor was Martin Hogan (c.1800-?). He had at least
four sons - Martin, Patrick, Matthew, and Michael. Matthew died in England,
the rest migrated to Youngstown, OH. A number of Matthew's children
migrated to the US, settling in upstate NY & Youngstown, OH. Martin Sr.
seems to have had at least two brothers - Thomas & Michael. Thomas was born
c.1810, and came to Youngstown, OH, before 1860. Michael was born around
1801.
