Just noticed this post on the Cook County mailing list and thought I'd pass it on. Some good news (expected lower fees) and some bad news (delayed release).

> Subject: [COOK-CO-IL] Cook County Digitized Records Date: Fri, 4 Jan 2008 09:03:00 -0800 (PST) The following is a phone conversation update literally from the mouth of the Cook County Director of Vital Records this morning:The digitized records for Cook County scheduled to go online this month has been delayed due to major server issues and is now rescheduled for July, 2008.While he would not commit to a figure, the fee per record can be expected to be significantly less than the current charges. There will be a searchable index. The burden of identifying the record you seek will be on the user. Once identified on the index, the user can "purchase" the digitized record online via credit card and the record will be downloaded to print and/or save.
