Fortune, John, one of the founders of the Fortune Bros. Brewery, died
at resid., 526 W. Jackson Blvd., on the 16th inst. Born at Ferns, Co.
Wexford in 1828, Mr. Fortune's ancestor bore a gallant part in the
Irish uprising of 1798. He had resided in Chicago more than half a
century, beginning as a house carpenter. In 1866 he went with his
younger brother, Peter, into the brewing business. John Fortune's
son, William J., is now Secretary of the company. Funeral from St.
Jarlath's Church to Calvary. -June 23, 1900 (2)
John Leo Fortune, another son, married Agnes Dorothy Stenson,
daughter of James Stenson, and the niece of the late Hon. William F.
Mahoney, at St. James Church on June 20, 1906. -May 29, 1906 (2)

Interesting, there was another Fortune (Peter) who had a brewery but
he was from Dublin.
Fortune, Peter, Cook County commissioner, born in Roundtown, outside
Dublin. He was a proprietor of a grocery store in 1856 at the corner
of Polk and Desplaines st. In 1865 he became one of the best known
brewer's in Chicago. His wife died in Sept., 1886, at the age of 37
yrs at their residence, 209 S. Green st. She went to Colorado to
improve her health, but died there. She was the mother of five
children, only two of whom survived her. -Sept. 11, 1886 (2) (21)
