Hi, Jack:

Most rolls of film contain two years of records, one index for each year
until about 1878, when they were organized into quarters. Indexes are organized by
names, and each name is followed by the Poor Law Union where the marriage
occurred, followed by the volume and page where the actual marriage record
appears in the marriage registry (which is organized by region and must be ordered
through the LDS or GRO).
