Subject: [Irish in Chicago] Michael Cronin
Date: Sat, 27 Mar 2004 08:00:41 EST

My great grandfather, Michael Cronin, was born in County Limerick, possibly
in the town of Knockaderry (from his Chicago obit) in about 1854. He came to
the USA in 1880 and settled in Chicago.

He was married to Catherine Minahan in 1883 at Old St. Patrick's by Father
O'Neil. Witnesses were Mary Cary and Patrick McQuade.

Catherine and her widowed mother, Kate Minahan, came to Chicago in 1880 from
County Limerick from "around Rathkeale." Kate had 2 sisters in Chicago, Mrs.
West and Mrs. Remington. Kate's maiden name was Cary or Carey.

Catherine and Michael had 4 children, Mary, Joseph, Catherine and John. Mary
married John (Jack) Redden and had 1 child. Catherine married George Nelson
and had 4 children, Catherine, Fred, Alan and George. John married Anne Burke
and had 1 son, John. John worked for the City in the Corporate Council office.

Michael died in May, 1914. At the time of his death, he owed a saloon at 430
west 38th Street. He and Catherine lived most of their married life in
Bridgeport. They were members of Nativity Parish. Michael, Catherine and Kate are
buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Does ANYONE recognize this family?
