Shelbers,
This may be of interest to those with families from this area. We were
looking around at the old German Cemetery across from the Zion United Church
of Christ (the old Zion Evangelical Church) Wednesday.
The interim pastor came out of the church and mentioned that they were
having a special event this Sunday, August 20,2000. He invited us in to
preview a display of historical items setup in the basement, that were on
loan from long time members of the area.
There is a quilt that has many names stitched in it - Gahimers, Rapps,
Haehls, Kuhns, Posz, Wissing, Theobald, Meltzer, Fuchs, Holbrook, Briggeman,
Dickmann, etc.
We found many of our relatives listed. I believe it was made in 1929-1930.
There are many, mamy pictures, and other documents - spread out on about 20
tables. All of this will be on display at the church this Sunday, beginning
at 9:30AM. There will be an old-fashioned service at 10:00, patterned after
services as they were held decades ago.
The Church is about 4-5 miles from Shelbyville, just East of Ray's
Crossing. The address is 7025 E 100 N Shelbyville, IN.
We live in Indianapolis, are not members, but plan to be there this Sunday!
