A big unsolved mystery!

As my mother tells this story:

Edna Marie Garner was born on July 4 1900 in Charleston Mo. Her parents are
unknown as her mother was said to have died either 6 weeks, 6 months or 6
years after her birth. After the mother died, the unknown father took off to
Alexander County IL where he would drop of his daughter to stay with the
Durham family whom listed her as orphan in the census and at one point Edna even
went by Durham instead of Garner.

My mother has her grandmother's, Edna Marie Garner McKee, bible and in this
bible is a name "Maxine Garner" . We have no idea who she is but assume she
may her mother. A twist to this story is that before Edna died, a man came
to her (my mother a teenage girl remembers the day very well) and introduced
himself as her half brother. His name was Otis LIGHT Durham. He went by Otis
Light. My mother recalls Otis telling Edna that he tracked her down by her
birth record in Charleston. I would also assume that Otis' family may hold
the key to her mystery but I have no idea where to look for them as I don't
even know whom he was married too.

I did send off for her death certificate today but I do not think it will
say who her parents were as no one knew. I am trying to find someone whom can
do a birth search for Edna in MO because I can not order a birth record as
the internet show records available after 1910 if I am not mistaken.

Got ideas or is there someone in MO or IL that can help me do a search? I
will be glad to pay for your research.
