Mrs. Sarah Walling, who died April 2, 1890, was born in Southern Ohio, July 9, 1814, and was married to Mr. J.B. Walling at the age of fifteen. Together they have spent their years, living first in Illinois, then Iowa, from there removing to Oregon, thence they came to this valley where they have resided for more than a quarter of a century, being among the pioneers of this region. A large family grew up around them, sixteen children in all, of whom ten are still living. Their descendants, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, are quite numerous, many of whom were present at the funeral.
Mrs. Walling was highly esteemed by all who knew here and greatly loved by her family and relatives and all who were intimately acquainted with her, possessing many excellent qualities of mind and heart, and serving faithfully and nobly in her sphere of life. She was unusually patient and cheerful in disposition, having always a pleasant greeting for everyone.
"None knew thee but to love thee,
None named thee but to praise."
For thirty years she was a devoted member of the Disciple or Christian church, taking a deep interest in all that pertained to its welfare. Her funeral was largely attended by pioneers of the vicinity, neighbors and relatives.
The services were conducted by Rev. W.B. Spindler.
