I found this in a scrapbook. There is no date of death but we can guess 1929. An accompanying newspaper article states that Mr. Gooder walked into the path of a truck on the highway south of Osage and was almost instantly killed.
"John Gooder was born at Dover, Wisconsin, October 26, 1847, to Job and Ann Gooder. He had seven sisters and one brother, all of whom preceded him in death with the exception of three of the sisters: Mrs. Will Shepherd, East Troy, Wisconsin; Mrs. Joe Johnson, Rochester, Wisconsin; and Mrs. Will Broxan, Wichita, Kansas.
He was married to Eliza Bell November 27, 1873, while living in the state of Kansas. She passed away in 1926, and was buried just three years to the day before his death.
They were parents of six children, three daughters and three sons, of whom four survive him. They are Mrs. Claude Stevens, Osage; Mrs. Frank Dellage, of Cedar Falls; Elmer, of Plentywood, Montana, and Clayton of St. Paul, Minnesota.
Mr. Gooder's eldest son, Dr. W.J. Gooder, was killed about six years ago when he fell from a load of grain at the St. Ansgar mill.
Funeral services will be held at the Shelledy funeral home Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and burial will be made in Riceville."
