William E. Armstead of Boulder died of natural causes Wednesday, May 5, 2004, in Boulder. He was 84.

Born Jan. 22, 1920, in Boulder, he was the son of Seth A. Armstead and Wilberta E. Hupp Armstead. He married Eileen Hall on Oct. 29, 1949, in Boulder.

Mr. Armstead retired from Rocky Flats as a fire chief in 1982.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Force in England, France and Germany from 1942 to 1946.

He was a life member of the Boulder Elks Lodge, belonged to the United States Golf Association, the Rocky Flats National Management Association, the American Legion, National Rifle Association and Rocky Flats Homesteaders, and was a former member of Boulder Country Club.

He enjoyed playing golf and meeting friends for coffee each morning, his family said.

Survivors include his wife of Boulder.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Seth A. Armstead Jr.

A funeral servicewill be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery.
