Grandma Carmichael Died
Maria J. Carmichael was born in Noble county, Ohio, March 19th, 1831 and died August 5th 1910, aged 79 years, 4 months and 16 days.
In the autumn of 1852 she was married to J.G.W. Carmichael. To this union were born five sons and five daughters, six of whom survive her, Geo. of Butte, J.B. of Elgin, Mrs. Sarah A. Carpenter of Coon Rapids, Iowa, Mrs. Mary A. Prettyman and Mrs. Jennie M. Pierce of Butte, and Mrs. L.M. Gormley of Herrick, S.D. All of whom were present at the time of her death.
Her father, John Hupp was a Methodist minister and she was raised a Methodist. She was an ernest christian all her life, a loving mother and a faithful wife. Her last days although suffering intensely, were spent in praising the Lord and singing his praises.
"Grandma" Carmichael, as she was known, was beloved by all who knew her. Her life was ever an example of true Christian fortitude, and the world was better for her having lived.
Mrs. Carmichael died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. P.P. Pierce, in Butte, Friday, August 5, 1910. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church on Sunday morning at ten o'clock, conducted by Rev. A. H. Raven. She was laid to rest in the Butte cemetery beside her beloved husband who preceded her only a few years.
The many friends of the family sympathize deeply with them in this their great loss. While we mourn yet we feel that our loss is her eternal gain, her pain and suffering is at an end and she can now rest in peace.
