I concur with your conclusions re: Elizabeth Johnson, and suspect the newspaper article may have been in error, as I have no record of Orson having a 2nd wife--although still a possibilty.

Louisa Hupp did have two sisters, whose whereabouts & marriages I have no information about, other than Harriet Hupp was b. ca. 1835, Martha b. ca. 1840 in IN, and both resided in Marshall Co., IN in 1850. Possibly one of them could have married Orson, I suppose, which would make the newspaper article make sense.

Elizabeth died sometime after 1900:

1900 US Census of Weaverville Twp., Trinity Co., CA, ED 194, 7 Jun 1900, sheet 3B, living on Main Street, line 65, dwelling 73, family 74: Fox, Elizabeth, head, w, f, b. Jan 1833, age 67, widow, mother of five children, five still living, b. Ireland, parents both born Ireland, year of immigration to the US 1847, number of years in the US 53, literate, owned house free; L. H., dau., w, f, b. Aug 1866, age 33, single, b. CA, father b. CT, mother b. Ireland.

Do you have any further info on either Harriet or Martha?
