The Hupps in this household were not children of Elizabeth by a previous marriage. They were the children of William I. Hupp (born Ohio, son of Jacob K. Hupp and Mary Kiser) and his wife Isabella Johnson (born Ireland). Isabella died in the 1870s, probably in Trinity County. The father, William, is probably the W. G. Hupp listed on the next page of the census as a single miner. Apparently, he left his children in the care of Orson and Elizabeth Fox. Since Elizabeth was born in Ireland, same as Isabella, it is likely that Elizabeth and Isabella were sisters.
