Hupp family that lived in the West Virginia/Ohio Valley area
I am the grand daughter of Leslie Ott Hupp
I'm trying to find out where his parents came from - do not know their names
- they spoke German
Leslie, born March 27, 1883 in Ohio, was the eldest brother of Clyde, Ray,
Ed, Nellie, and possibly other brothers
At one time, they lived in Barton, Ohio
Nellie settled in Cameron, W.VA and produced 21 children
When Leslie attended Nellie's funeral in Cameron, W.VA, he met a family
member (Hupp from Cameron?) who was a doctor
Some brothers settled in the Ohio Valley close to Wheeling, W.VA
One brother, possibly Ed, lived in Lanore, PA around 1947 - I visited he and
wife there and saw that all the trees/grass were lifeless from pollution
The family was poor - Leslie, being the oldest, had to quite school by 8
years old - he worked on other family farms and slept/ate in their barn - he
also worked in coal mines, crawling into the tunnel to pick up scraps of
coal that had fallen off of the trolley carts.
I read on the web that someone is looking for the Hupp family crest - I
don't think this Hupp family came from one that ever needed a crest.
I also read on the web that the Hupp family in America descended from 5
brothers who came from Germany - I have also heard that from my family, but
no one knew anything about the 5 brothers or how many generations back they
were
I know more about Leslie, a very fine man and wonderful grandfather, and
some about his brothers
