An Open Invitation,

The Society was inaugarated several years ago with the view of assisting
local Howie's, and their descendants, to trace their family history. The
Society was not very successful, insofar as we were limited as to what we
could do in terms of research outwith our own area, and also in terms of
attracting membership.

We found that when we did receive inquiries as a result of advertising as a
one name society, most of them were on the 'Internet' and could not be
bothered to exchange data by snail mail. Had the Society owned a computer,
things may have developed quite nicely.

In March, 1999, I decided, as last remaining member of the society, to
purchase a computer, and start transferring all our data, which filled 67
lever arch files, into the computer, a task which has still to be completed.

I now feel the time is right to resurrect the Society membership, to still
abide to our original intention of providing free assistance, but to provide
it via our website.

All we ask of you as a member, is that you keep us informed of any Howie,
Howey, Huie data that you may come across in your area, and that you will
assist, where possible, any member investigating their family within your
area.

To join the Society, simply send your name and (address optional) and the
area for which you would be able to research for other members should the
need arise. Your own area of research, ie the top of your tree, to
