Hedrick researchers, please check your files.

I am researching my Hedricks line and am stuck at my great-grandfather,
Richard Worth Hedricks, born March 31, 1859 in either Indiana or Kentucky. I
have him beginning with his first marriage in 1879 in Trimble Co., KY until
his death in 1939 in Spencer Co., IN but cannot find him prior to 1879.

He is in Carroll Co., KY in the 1880 Census living with his wife's (Lucy C.
Mahoney) family. Head of Household is Sarah F. Mahoney.

He is Head of Household in Spencer Co., IN in the 1900 and 1910 Censuses. I
have not looked at census information after 1910 since I know he lived in
Spencer Co., IN until his death.

He should be in an 1860 Census and most certainly a 1870 Census.
All of the census records where I have found him give Indiana as his
birthplace, Indiana for his father, and Kentucky for his mother.

His obituary says he was born in Harrison Co., KY although I have found no
record of him there. Also, that information (obviously) would not have come
from him but other family members at the time of his death. His 5 children
clearly had different ideas about where he was born (based on their marriage
applications). The obit also says that he was orphaned young.

My best guess for his birthplace is Dearborn Co., IN.

The only information that I have about his parents comes from census records
and from the marriage application for his second marriage (1914, Spencer Co.,
IN). Father's name: James Hedricks, no birthplace info., no occupation
info., residence-dead. Mother's name: Jane Sadler, occupation-housekeeper,
birthplace- Kentucky, residence-dead. Based on a birthyear of 1859, I have
guesstimated his parents birth years to be in the 1820 to 1840 range.

On another topic, in looking for Richard W., I found a Benjamin Hedrick in
the 1860, 1870 and 1880 Spencer Co., IN Censuses. He does not seem to be
associated with any of the other Hedricks that I know of in Spencer Co., IN.

age 41, b. VA

no one else listed with him

1870 Luce Twp, Spencer Co., IN

Hedrick, Benjamin, age 50,
Walsin Brown, 19, farm laborer

1880 North Half Luce Twp., Spencer Co, IN

Benjamin Hederick, age 64, b. PA
Lewis Brown, 24

Benjamin died in 1884. I don't know where I got that info.

If anyone is interested in more detail about Benjamin, please contact me. It
would be fairly easy to get a copy of the census records.
