What I know concerning Garrett [Garritt, Garet, Garratt] HART and his family
in and around Salem twp, Columbiana, Ohio ca 1809-1867.

1. Garret is listed in the Ohio Federal census 1820, 1830, 1840, 1850
[pg.67, pg. 438 pg. 124 and pg. 15 respectively] in Salem Twp, Columbiana
Co. Ohio
2. In about 1820 Garret was a class leader and a member of Frost's Methodist
Episcopal Church, now located in Center twp and known as Point Pleasant
Church
3. In 1824 the northwest quarter (of section 28) passed by sale to Garrett
Hart of Washington Co, PA who had lived on section 31 about 15 years.
4. About 1824 Garrett persuaded the people of the neighborhood who were
inclined to Methodism to organize a class. He was chosen as the first
leader. Members were Garrett Hart, Elizabeth Hart, Joseph Headley & wife,
Jonathan DICKENSON & wife, Samuel SHELTON & Catherine his wife, Jacob KARNS
& wife, Samuel KARNS& wife.
5. His son Garrett was living on the farm [section 28] in 1879.
6. Hart Cemetery, Salem twp. Inscriptions: Garratt Hart born 6 Oct 1776 died
28 July 1843 66y 2m 2d; Elizabeth Hart died 17 July 1867; Lidia Jane born
5 August 1825 died 30 September 1841.

Sarah C. [Catherine] 14 OH (illegitimate daughter of Maryanne & Elihu

Garret 29 OH (2nd son of Garrett); Charity A. 23 OH (wife of Garret) Mary E.
4 OH (dau).
9.1850 Census, Salem twp, Columbiana Co, Ohio pg. 16 [Sept 14]
James 35 OH (eldest son of Garrett) Sarah 30 OH; John O. [Alfry or
Allfree] 12 OH; William Henry 10 OH; Charles Westly 8 OH; Martin Luthor 6
OH; Abel Cary 4 OH; George Madison 1 OH.
10. James was executor of his fathers will and the following were named in
the will; Maryanne, Garrett, Isabella, Rachel and Elizabeth.
11. Maryann was in Union Twp Fayette Co. OH in the 1850 Ohio State Census pg
75 ID #OHS6a1366316 and OHS9a4005843.
12. Maryanne married Elihu FERRALL in March 1841 in Columbiana Co. Ohio.
They had 10 children and removed to Michigan.

As you can see, I can place Garrett and his family in Columbiana Co. OH with
some certainty. I am trying to locate Garretts parents/ancestry. The only
clue to his family is in the land record: "...passed to Garrett Hart of
WASHINGTON county, PENNSYLVANIA" Any assistance will be greatly appreciated
