If your grandfather was born in the late 1800's or early 1900's, then I
would suggest a search of the Social Security Index by surname or
another good place to start is the Family Search Index of the LDS church
in Salt Laks City, Utah. Their website is www.familysearch.com Again,
when you search, type in the last name only and the hit search. You will
get a ton of Hanks which you can sort by first name and if you "hit" ,
download the data.
