I think that your William Hamilton may be connected to my Hamiltons of early Barren/Monroe Co KY. My ancestor John Hamilton was born in Scotland Jan 1, 1726 and died in Barren Co KY 1801/1802. He is first found in Lancaster Co PA in 1758 in the household of "ye widow Bowman". His eldest son, James, was born there. He moved first to Augusta Co VA and then c1780 into Crab Orchard KY. Perhaps your William was a nephew?
