Your story has some sense.....the first Earl of Arran died in 1529 with two
legitimate sons, James, who became the second Earl of Arran and tutor to
Mary, Queen of Scots and governed in her minority. and a younger son, Gavin.
However, the second earl was only 10 when his father died and the first
Earl's eldest son (illegitmate) was named tutor to the second
earl..........Sir James Hamilton of Finnart also received half of his
father's estate............
Back to your people. It says that in 1513 Sir James Hamilton of Finnart
was legitimized and that his father's two half brothers were also
legitimized..........one of the latter two could be your Archibald. It does
not give the names. However, the Earl's father died in 1479, so he could
not have fathered a child in 1500. With the dates you give, it is more
likely that Archibald was an illegitimate son of the Earl of Arran........or
an illegitimate son of the Earl's illegimate half brothers...........Have
you seen a copy of the House of Hamilton? It surely would give this
information. I have seen a copy , but do not personally have a copy. It is
almost impossible to find a copy to purchase. Also, the second earl's
younger brother was Gavin....a name apparently popular in the family. Also
in regards to Hans........The Earl of Arran was involved in some naval
battle regarding King Hans of Denmark and I wonder if that is how he got
that name......obviously it is not a Scottish name............
By the way, where is Raploch in Lanarkshire....is it at all near
Strathaven? Also, how did you trace your genealogy and where is your
website?
