Pat & List,
Have you checked out the website that Larry has mentioned previously that
goes through the Hamilton family history...I know Alexander (the US
treasurer) is there. I've checked it out because of my family rumour that
we are connected to Alexander but on the "wrong side of the blanket".
Alexander did publicly admit to one affair. I'm not putting much stock in
the family tale other than another possible to check out and accept or
disregard as information is found. I'm having a devil of a time getting
access to early Ontario marriage records to see if my Alexander married his
Jane McCutcheon in Ontario or not. (Upper Canada Marriage Bonds only
available at National Archives in Ottawa on Index cards...2000 miles
away!!). Alexander Hamilton, tailor, was found in 1850 in Hamilton, ON.
I'm hoping I can find his parent's names on a marriage record somewhere.
I think the genealogy is found here but not sure if details on James are
included:

It is an interesting side note...one would suspect that since Alexander was
successful, he might attempt to assist his other family members. Sometimes
the destiny of a family group may be tied to the actions of one of the
members. It seems good policy to try to search out events of brothers,
sisters, cousins, aunts, uncles, etc. to determine what happened to our
particular ancestor.
