Hello Angela and Hackett researchers:

I believe the Mary Hackett (wife of Thomas) listed in the Hackett Bible is my GGG aunt. My GG Grandmother, Honora Ann Troy Cosgrove, had a sister, Mary Troy, who married a Thomas Hackett. Mary and Thomas had 8 known children: Mary, Thomas, John, Patrick, James, Ann, Joseph and Maurice.

Mary and Honora Troy were from Cork County, Ireland. According to my great uncle, their father's name was Patrick Troy. Mary was born abt. 1835. She immigrated to the United States a few years before her sister, Honora. My GG Grandmother Honora (born abt. 1845) was sent to the states around 1855 to live with Mary and Thomas, who resided in New York at that time. Mary Hackett (Thomas and Mary's daughter) was born in New York.

The Hacketts, along with Honora, moved to Detroit, MI around 1865. I believe the rest of the Hackett children (Thomas, John, Patrick, James, Ann, Joseph, and Maurice) were born in Michigan between the years 1866 and 1877. Honora, who had moved out of the Hackett home around 1868, married Lawrence Cosgrove (my GG Grandfather) in 1870. They were neighbors of Mary and Thomas in Detroit. By 1880, Honora was once again living with the Hacketts, who had moved to the Hamtramck area of Wayne County, MI. Then, in the early 1880's, Honora and Lawrence moved to the Chicago area before finally settling in Minnesota in 1883. Honora died in Swanville, MN in 1932.

I don’t know what became of the Hackett family once my GG grandparents left Michigan. But, as it does not appear that the Hacketts followed Honora and her family to Chicago or Minnesota, I assume they stayed in Michigan.

I know the original query regarding this bible was sent quite some time ago (3 years!), but I thought I'd take a chance that whoever now has the bible in their possession -- or anyone who is researching the family of Mary and Thomas -- will see this message. I would love to learn the birth and death dates/locations of Mary Troy Hackett. I'm also interested in finding out if Mary and Thomas were married in the US or in Ireland.

My hope is that any information I can find on Mary Troy Hackett (my GGG aunt) will help me with my search for the Troy family and narrow down what part of Cork County, Ireland my GG Grandmother is from. Whatever kind of help anyone can give me in this quest is greatly appreciated!
