Hello Erin Bradford and a heartfelt thank you enormously much for the
message regarding all genealogists adding a codicil about their heirs or
administrators "finding a good home" for what is sometimes thousands of
hours of research.
I was once at a "Yard Sale" in Santa Barbara's upscale suburb of
Montecito where I saw the young man -- the heir -- had piled boxes and
files of old family photos and memorabilia on card tables in the garage
and driveway for sale for to all comers for 5c, 10c or whatever.
I was a tad "heartsick" to think of all the hours and days and years of
assembling the materials that were now, more of less "thrown away", but
the real, (as you see, decades-later memorable) "OUCH!" was a whole
"wall chart" -- a genealogical chart of the seller's family -- crumpled
up and stuffed in the nearby garbage can. :-)
I asked Rick Dahlgren, the heir to the family, "Rick! Why are you
throwing that away?"
Rick replied something like, "Whoever would want that stuff?"
======
I hope I can see Rick's point. This was probably back on the 1960s, but
as I see it, all genealogy is a great, personal, meaningful, and
wondrously informative and educational history. From my own point of
view (that genealogy is marvelously educational) I saw the garbageing of
a beautiful wall chart of his Dahlgren Family for hundreds of years (and
yard saleing of all this material) as at least a minor tragedy. :-)
"When an old man dies, a library burns."
Your codicil is a great idea! :-)
