Joyce,
We appreciate your taking the Hackett list. I hope and pray that Erin's
surgery goes well.
To followup on a recent set of postings concerning Hackett families in
Georgia:
My Hackett line in Georgia is through Whitaker Thomas Hackett (1834-1920) who
moved to Newton County, Georgia from Franklin County, GA around 1880. He was
married to Eliza Ann Crenshaw. They had six children: William Thomas, John
Freeman, Nancy Catherine, Margaret Jane, Mary Emmer, and Columbus Henry.
Whitaker Hackett fought in the Civil War, and was discharged from the
Confederate army in 1863. He served in Company D of the Hampton, South Carolina
Legion.
Whitaker T. Hackett helped to establish Lovejoy Methodist Church in the
Leguinn District of Newton County. He was one of this church's first
trustees in 1889.
Whitaker Hackett died in February, 1920 and is buried alongside his wife,
Elisa Ann, at Grant's Shop cemetery near the intersection of Hwy 36 and
Hwy 212 in Newton County, Georgia.
I hope somone out there on the list can add to what I have on this line.
