Subject: [HACKETT-L] Hackett estates in Co. Offaly, Ireland

While messing around with Alta Vista today searching for references
to Castlearmstrong, home of some Church of Ireland Hacketts in the 19th
century up into the 20th, I came across this discussion in the Irish govt
in 1931. This was part of the Land Commission and ended in the house at
Castlearmstrong being demolished and the stone used to make a road. I have
never found any proof that the Hacketts owned Castlearmstrong, but they
certainly lived there for a good long time.

>[2003] Mr. P. Boland asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether a
scheme for the division of the following lands has been prepared, and if it
is the intention of his Department to put such scheme into operation during
this year: (1) The Hackett Farm, Ballycumber, Offaly; (2) the lands of
Camas, Waller Sawyer Estate or (Tarleton Estate) Belmont, Co. Offaly, and
(3) the Nesbitt Estate, Tubberdaly, Rhode, Offaly.

Mr. Roddy: Schemes for the division of the lands of Killaghintober and
Castlearmstrong, on the Hackett Estate, the lands of Camas on the Waller
Sawyer Estate, and the lands of Toberdaly on the Nesbitt Estate, have been
prepared and are at present under consideration.
