Kellie (and all),

I have a Hackett family from Newburgh, NY which I can't seem to
connect to any of the other many Hackett clans in the states or in
Ireland. Here's what I have on my 2nd Great Grandfather:

"Bernard Hackett (about 1835 - 1895) was an Irish immigrant who
settled in upstate NY around the time of Ireland's Potato Famine
(1845-1851). It is not known if he came to New York with parents or
siblings. He and his wife, Mary Ann Tompkins, lived in the
Poughkeepsie, NY area and also in Newburgh, NY where at least one of
their children was born in 1874. Bernard and Mary Ann's children were
said to have reminisced of their childhood past-time of ice skating
on the Hudson River when it would freeze over in wintertime. Their
children included, Jeremiah, Annie, Nellie and Francis Joseph (my
great-grandfather). All four of these children, along with their
mother Mary Ann, moved to New Haven, CT prior to 1898."

My great-grandfather named his only daughter Marion in 1904. I would
be very interested to find a connection between your Newburgh
Hacketts and mine. Please tell me more about your line. Do you know
about when your John Edward came through Ellis Island or why he
settled in Newburgh?
