He married Ada Pearsall in Chicago, IL some time around 1876 and had the
following children: Mabel, James Arthur (my grandfather), Mildred,
Florence, Frank, Margaret Celestine and George. The 1900 census gives his
birthdate as June 1850, Missouri and his parents were born in Ireland. My
grandfather's death certificate states that Laurence was born in St. Louis.
I have hit a brick wall trying to find any information concerning him
before he married Ada Pearsall. If anyone has any information that could
remotely help me, I certainly would appreciate it.

Dear ???.
First, what religion were your Hacketts? Really impt for Irish
ancestor research.
You have found the family in 1900. After collecting what
information there is in the home, I would next collect every census record
relating to these family members from 1920 back to at least 1850. By the
time you have all that, there will be enough data to suggest a further
step.
