Master; U.S.N. during the Civil War; ass't. Secretary of the Navy,
1900-01 (see Who's Who in America, Vol. 14). Issues: HACKETTS:
i. Chauncey Craven HACKETT heretofore mentioned.
ii. William Henry Young HACKETT, b. 1886; m. Louisa Low Haydock.
He was named
after his grandfather.

Parents of Frank Warren HACKETT:
William Henry Young (aka W.H.Y. HACKETT) (1800-1826,
Gilmanton-Portsmouth, NH) and Olive (Pickering) HACKETT, m. 1826. Olive
was dau. of Joseph Warren Pickering of Portsmouth, NH. W.H.Y. HACKETT was
a lawyer; president N.H. Senate. His parents were Allen and Mary (Young)
HACKETT, m. 1797, dau. of Joseph Young. Parents of Allen HACKETT were:
Jeremiah and Mary "Polly" (Robinson) HACKETT of Canterbury, NH (he d.
1797 "in the prime of his life"). Jeremiah was son of Ephraim and Dorothy
(Allen) HACKETT, m. 1734. Ephraim HACKETT was b. 1711. Dorothy was the
dau. of Stillson Allen. Ephriam HACKETT was the son of Ebenezer
(1687-1741) and Hannah (RING) HACKETT. She was the dau. of Javes Ring.
Ebenezer HACKETT was the son of Captain William(1) and Sarah (Barnard)
HACKETT, m. 1666/7 at Salisbury, MA. Sarah was dau. of Captain Thomas
Barnard who was one of the first 18 settlers of Salisbury, MA and was
killed by Indians there. He had a VERY extensive will. Capt. William(1)
HACKETT had a will probated in 1714 Norfolf County, MA. For more
information on these PROLIFIC HACKETT lines see: History of Canterbury,
NH and also The Old Families of Salisbury and Amesbury, Mass. by David W.
Hoyt, 1097 pages including indexes. Also be sure to look at History of
Carroll County, NH by Georgia Drew Merrill, 987 pages NOT INDEXED, but
pay attention to Tamworth & Brookfield, NH. For Truxton/HACKETT re,
Henderson connection, see Genealogies of PA Families, From The Penn. Gen.
Magazine, Vol. III, pgs. 173-202, by Stauffer-Zerbe (with Bible Records)
Baltimore Gen. Pub. Co., Inc. 1982.

Thomas Tingey Craven (1808-1887), Staunton, VA was a Rear Admiral in the
U.S.N.; m. as his 2nd wife, Emily Henderson, dau. of Dr. Thomas and Anna
Maria (Truxton) Henderson. Anna Maria Truxton was b. 16 March 1792, dau.
of the famous Commordore Thomas and Mary (Fundran) Truxton. Ida (Craven)
HACKETT was the wife of the Honorable FRANK HACKETT, Ass't. Secretary of
the Navy. Ida was the grand-daughter of Anna Maria (Truxton) Henerson.

This is being submitted for those HACKETTS who may be fortunate enough to
be descendants of these interesting and in a sense important HACKETTS. My
only connection is that I'm a descendant of William(1) and Sarah(2)
(Barnard) HACKETT, but my line does go through historical HACKETTS, re,
the shipwrights, William(1), William(2), John(3), Colonel James(4) and
James, Jr.(5). Colonel James(4) and his brother John(4) and their first
cousin William(4) HACKETTS who were prolific ship builders and designer
respectively, before, during and post Rev. War. These three built some of
the most notable New Hampshire vessels known. In fact, as was reported to
me by James Hackett Sanderson Duncan, there is a "Ranger" Association of
Portsmouth, NH now in the second phase of building an exact replica of
the vessel, "Ranger", which Captain John Paul Jones received as his first
American ship and brought it to France where our Stars and Stripes were
given the very first grand and appropriate salute by the French
Commordore in 1777 I believe or it could have been in 1776. I'd have to
look it up. Anyway, Col. James HACKETT was the Master Builder of the
"Ranger" and probably designed by his first cousin William(4) HACKETT,
reported by most authorities, seeing that he did design so many of Col.
James Hackett's other ships and those of his brother's, John HACKETT.

Other references of interest in the Compendiums:

Dr. Warren Bostick of CA has done his HACKETT genealogy, which is
extensive, but just some interesting points in his writings:
He is a descendant of Jabez(1) HACKETT of Taunton, MA (1654), first of
Lynn, MA (Salem) in 1644. He has a "bunch" of Mayflower ancestors, but
from the Jabez HACKETT line he derives at his Mayflower line through the
marriage of Peleg HACKETT (1771-1807) who m. Mary WARREN (1777-1859) and
the WARREN line goes back to the Mayflower. The son of Peleg, Samuel
HACKETT m. Augusta ALDEN COLE and I suspect that ALDEN line goes back to
the Mayflower.

Dr. Bostick's COLE line is James Cole, Sr. of England and MA; James Cole,
Jr. England and MA; John Cole father of Edward Cole, who was the father
of Edward Cole, Jr., who married Phebe ALDEN, dau. of Job Alden. Augusta
Alden Cole (1799-1842), was dau. of Edward and Phebe Cole HERETOFORE
MENTIONED, who m. Samuel HACKETT (1799-1853) I throw these Coles in for
Ruth Mc and Kathy G.

The above Hacketts were of MA until this line con't with the son of
Samuel and Augusta Alden Cole HACKETT, whose son Samuel was b. 1836 in MA
and d. 1920 in CA. He m. Carrie Victoria Lithgow, b. 1847 in IL and d.
1923 in CA and Dr. John Benton Bostick (1875 OK - 1956 CA) m. their dau.,
Carrie HACKETT, (1881 CA-1963 CA), who were the parents of Dr. Warren
Lithgow Bostick who was a twin b. 1914 in TX, but lives in CA.

Best of "hunting"
