Subject: [HACKETT-L] Hackett 1700s VA or KY (main names: Peter, Martin, John, Thomas, Basil, Jacob)

I'm looking for a Peter Hackett from the mid to late 1700s. I know that by
1800 he was in KY. My grandparents have a book back in IL about the
descendants/ancestors of Ellen Roxana Wyeth who married Oliver Cromwell
Hackett. The book give Oliver's parents as being John Hackett and Elizabeth
Murphy. The book gives no info on Elizabeth's parents (who I'm looking for),
but it did give John's father as being Peter Hackett who it said was from VA
and fought in the Rev. War. I have not found any info on Peter in any Rev. War
records online since I don't know how to search records other than online yet,
any help would be appreciated:o) The book only gives Peter's birthday as "bef.
1788" which if he is really John's father, that's kinda obvious because John is
listed as being born abt 1791 in Madison Co.,KY. John married Elizabeth on Jan
20, 1816 in Jessamine Co, KY (this is from a marriage record index) and he died
Jan 27, 1852 in Hittesville, Coles CO., IL (Off the COles Co. genweb page I
believe). Peter is listed as being in the 1790 census of Madison Co., KY, but
it gives absolutely no info because the original was burned or lost and this
copy was comprised of tax list records. Looking at some of the recent posts
about Martin have made me wonder if it is possible that Peter is a son or
brother of either Martin (2 listed in 1790 census of VA in Caroline and
Albemarle Cos.) or Thomas in Caroline Co., VA. I've been stuck on this line
for about 3 years now, I can't go back any further than John for sure, and
Peter seems possible, but I can't connect Peter to anyone. Peter was the only
Hackett listed in 1790 in KY, but the 1820 census (haven't been able to look
earlier yet) lists 3 others besides Peter, all in Madison Co. This makes me
think they were related and Peter went to KY first to like "test the waters" so
to speak. In the 1820 census, it does list a Bazil Hackett also in the 1790 VA
census as being over 45 as is Peter and another man named William. William was
not listed in the 1790 VA census (to my knowledge), but there was one listed in
MD. The fourth man is Jacob listed as between 26-45 and could easily be the
youngest brother if in fact these are brothers. Only John is listed in the
1840 census (haven't been able to check 1830 yet) of KY, only he is listed as
"Capt. John" and being age 40-50. I am assuming it's age 48 since in the 1850
census he is listed in Coles Co., IL as being 58. Ok, this is long enough. I
would love to hear some thoughts about this and the relationship between these
men. Thanks for your help:)
