Barbara,

I was struck by the name George Hackett in your inquiry. It was my
Grandfather's name!
I am sorry to say I don't know much about him. I do know his father's
name was James
and could very will be a son or grandson of George and Ransom Hackett.
The age
range is right and it is common to be named after you Grandfather.
So, here is what I do know:

James Hackett - of Greene/Oxford, Chenango co, NY
born NY unknown date
married: Anna White Unknown date
Anna was born 9/25/1859 NY daughter of William Perry
White 1830 - ? and
Julie Bartlett 1835 - ? of Greene, NY

They had three sons:
2 - Unknown +
George Merton Hackett
2/12/1887 - 2/8/1954 Greene NY

His parent died when he was 6 - in an accident or during an epidemic.
He was raised by his grandparents - W. Perry & Julie White. He is listed
in the 1900
census as living with them and being their "G-son".

George married Lillian C. Edgerton of Greene NY Daughter of Isaac
Edgerton and Clara H. Tyler of Greene, NY
Lillian was born 12/14/1887 (recorded as 12/15) in
Smithville Flats, NY (part of
Greene) died 9/77 Endicott, NY- Buried in Greene, NY

They had one Child:
Clara Martha Hackett ( my Mother)
born 4/19/1919 Greene, NY
died 4/5/1973 Sidney, NY
Buried in Greene, NY
Married Robert W. Randall of Greene, NY

Could it be that James is a son of George and Ransom? That might
explain how all traces of his family seem to vanish - they just
moved west....

Anyone have any ideas??
