Greetings:

I have recently returned from a trip to Michigan where I had a great time
"digging up dead relatives"!.. I have traced my HACKET(T) line back to those
that emigrated to the US from Ireland (County Tipperary) in the mid 1840's.
The family settled in southwestern lower Michigan, in Cass County; primarily
in the Dowagiac area. Most of the first two generations are buried at Sacred
Heart of Mary-Silver Creek cemetery in Cass County. Later generations moved
within the State of Michigan, mostly along the old Michigan Central Railroad
line, where a number of the men of the family were employed.

m. Bridget MEAGHER 1797-1876
Bridget is supposed to be related to Thomas Francis Meagher of the
1848 "Young Ireland" movement in Ireland and later in the US he helped
organized the "Irish Brigade" during the US Civil War. So far this is still
family lore as I haven't been able to establish a link....but am still trying.
I have NO information on Michael. He isn't buried with his wife and
at this point I'm seriously considering that he might have died in Ireland
before the family came to the US. I have requested a copy of the family's
"Ship Passenger Arrival Records" from the National Archives to see if he came
to the US, but you know how slow they can be.
