RE: "My Hackett Line" sent earlier today 08/12: Gary Irvin(10) Hackett.
Much of the early data was taken from several wills and many deeds of my
line of Hacketts, which proved most useful in obtaining names, dates and
places. This should be added to the basic list at end of genealogy.
Please also know, I also have the sibblings b.'s, m.'s, & d.'s in every
generation that are in my line, as well as the 125 allied (through the
wives) lines all with b.'s, m.'s & d.'s in my Hackett line also. Most of
all these sibblings and hundreds more (Hacketts) are backed up and
further researched by our Data Base Chairman, Howard Johnston of ID.
<> whose Hackett ancestry also goes back to William(1)
Hackett of Salisbury, MA.
Further, although we've put William(1) Hackett as prob. b. in England,
this is not a certainty, because it's just posible through our many years
of research, now done, there is a good probability that our William(1)
Hackett could be the son of William Hackett who had land grants in Dover,
NH as early as 1654. We need proof of this, however. We know William
Hackett of the Dover, NH Land Grants was married at least twice. We
believe his 1st wife was Mary Atkins whom he did marry and they had at
least two daughters, probably three before Mary died. She was the
daughter of Thomas Atkins who had ten daughters.
We also know that William Hackett of the Dover, NH Land Grants was
married to a Margaret whose daughter m. a Smith of Taunton, Mass., who
claimed land on behalf of his wife. This William Hackett of Dover, NH
left a will 1685.
There is also a historical notation in a book (which I've forgotten the
name of), that I read at the Portsmouth, NH Library many years ago, that
William Hackett of Dover, NH was building vessels at Haverhill, Mass.
after he sold his land to Hanson at Dover, NH. This could have been Capt.
William(1) Hackett who was the son, and who married Sarah(2) Barnard of
Salisbury, Mass. Capt. William(1) Hackett, who was in the coastal trade
business along with his father-in-law, Capt. Thomas(1) Barnard, who was
one of the first 18 Proprietors of Salisbury, MA, and owned many large
land holdings at that place. Capt. Hackett and Capt. Barnard both left
wills. William Hackett's was probated 1714. Capt. Barnard left an
extensive will, and he was was killed by the Indians of Salisbury, MA.
Capt. William Hackett forfieted his vessel the "Endeavor" for which he
was in court over both in NY and NJ. Then both Hackett and Barnard were
in court for not having delieved the "goods" that were aboard the vessel,
when the owner of the goods took them to court.
It is my belief that William Hackett of the Dover, NH Land Grants left
England and removed to Holland where he obtained a vessel and came to
this country from there. Maybe he escaped from England to Holland because
of religious beliefs? Many did.
