Got this information from a man in Manchester, England, who saw my
listing in the GRD.
Martin Hackett was born in the parish of Templecarn, near the town
of Pettico in County Fermanagh (near Donegal), Ireland, in 1785. He joined
the 69th Foot Regiment of the British Army at Wexford in 1806 and spent
about 15 years in India. At some point he married Catherine Kelly, also of
Ireland.
On his return from India, his eldest son, Francis Moira Hackett,
was born at sea in 1823. There were four other children born in Ireland,
Margaret, Catherine, Samuel, and Ellinor between 1830 and 1840.
By 1851 the family was living on Main Street, Bridgeton, Glasgow,
Scotland.
Francis had Martin, Patrick, and R. Hackett, all born in Glasgow to
Susan Kean.
Martin (II) had Francis, James, Susan, John, Isabell, and Sarah,
all born in Glasgow. My correspondent is descended from Susan Hackett who
married John Boyle and died in 1952.
From the names and the history, I would guess this family is
Protestant, perhaps Presbyterian. He has nothing further back than Martin
I.
Those interested may contact Duncan Craig McIntosh, 81 Shawhead
Drive, Failsworth, Manchester M350SD, England, UK.
