This is in response to Cory Hackett's listing:
There have been a couple of us who have been delving into the family of
George & Nancy Hackett. They are listed in 1810 in Washinginton Co.PA
with 2 males under age ten, 3 daughters under ten.
George served as a scout for Bealls Army as it moved through part of
Ohio during the War of 1812. He returned to Blooming Grove Twp.,
Richland Co. in 1815 after the war and was one of the first settlers in
the area.
1820 census has for children: 3 males under ten, 1 male 16-18, 3 females
under ten, 2 females 10-16.
With the census records, cemetery records and a book called "History of
Richland Co., 1880", which gives biographical sketches of citizens, we
have been able to piece together some info. Overall picture starts to
look like this:
George Hackett Abt.1777-1846
wife Nancy Abt. 1777-1855
??daughter between 1800-1804
George (Jr) between 1800-1805, m. abt. 1825, was in area we feel thru
1840 census. Then he either left the area or died...yet to
be determined.
Betsy (Elizabeth?) 1806-1847 An Elizabeth Hackett m. Ezekiel Chew 1827
Margaret 1807-1880 m. George Hackett from Juniata Co. PA in 1840
William 1809-1886 m. Eliza ?
Mary 1812-1878 m. Amon S. Chew in 1839
Drucilla b. abt. 1814
James 1815-1837
Robert 1821-1842
Nancy 1821-1835
Eleanor 1820-1833
In searching the census records I have found a Peter Hackett that was in
Washington Co in 1810 census. Family consisted of son under 10, male
between 16-26; daughter under 10, female 16-26. A Peter Hackett then
shows up in Richland Co. in 1820 with 2 sons 0-10, 2 daughters 1-10,
with Peter and wife 26-45. I'm GUESSING that Peter and George were
brothers and came together to settle in Ohio. In 1850 census Peter
looks like he has a new wife and started another family with her: Peter
age 63 born in PA; Catherine 46; Henry 17; Joseph 15; Wm. 12, Sarah J.
10, Amanda 7.
Could your Peter be of the age to be one of the early children of this
Peter who was born in 1787?
Would be happy to share any other info we can.
