Hi Elizabeth -
You asked if I had done the census work on Thomas Russell Hackett.
Guess my answer would be "yes, but". I have made a run at the Census
back through 1870. Found the family listed twice in Louisville, KY in
one of them. I need to revisit my records (and, truth be told, organize
them a bit) so that I can see where I am. In the 1870 census I found a
wholesale liquor dealer name of Thomas Hackett with wife Maria and
family who I think may be my man, but not convinced yet. There was a
Maria buried near Thomas Hackett in the Catholic Cemetery, who was
distinctively different from his third wife Margaret Bowman -- found her
also. Must compare the dates with the ages in the 1870 census. Part of
the problem is that I have to account for the family of 2nd marriage.

Thomas Russell Hackett died before my father was born, but we would
chuckle with my father when Dad told us many times how his grandmother,
Maggie, referred to him. Thomas R. was in the liquor business. "Yes,
Mr. Hackett did imbibe upon occasion, but he was always a gentleman."
Other sources suggest that he was a heavy drinker.

I am hoping to narrow down the range of time in which he might have
emmigrated from Ireland. Have done a little searching for
naturalization records, but there are so many places to look and so many
years that much remains to be done. I would like to compare notes with
you as I proceed.

Regards, Robert
