The 1880 census says he was born Canada, my records show he was born Newport,
Orleans, VT. [Many Hacketts born in Stanstead Co. were also listed as being
born in Orleans Co., VT]

This John Hackett is apparently the same one as I just posted to the Hackett
mailing list, ie, 1861 Census, Stanstead Co., Quebec. Here's some of his
notes:¦Living at Stanstead, Stanstead Co., Quebec in 1861 and 1901. In the
1861
¦census he was a carpenter, age 38, married, wife Sarah and seven minor
¦children, including George, age 12. The family was Wesleyan Methodist, all
¦born Lower Canada, living in a single-family frame house. Shortly after the

¦death of his first wife he married Angeline ______. He had married his
first
¦wife by 1843.

There are a lot of us who would like to know who Jeremiah's father was. I
would guess he was born in New England and died in Stanstead Co., Quebec.
Here's my notes for him:This source gives this connection a "maybe".
1825 Census, Lower Canada, Stanstead, Richelieu Co., page 719, reel C-717.
This source describes his household as 7 persons, 3 under age 6, 2 ages 6-13,

1 married male 25-39, 1 married female 14-44, and 3 females 0-13.
