Re Tipperary
Does this Hackett line sound familiar to anyone?
Tobias Hackett born c 1823 in Killenaule, County Tipperary, Ireland - said
to be the son of Patrick and Ellen (Blake) Hackett - emigrated to
Newfoundland, died 1890. He was married to Sarah Cole, b. 1830 Co.
Tipperary, died Brigus NF August 8, 1888.
Children - there may have been more:
Thomas (my line) b. Brigus NF c 1856
Margaret b. Brigus, NF July 10, 1857 m. (1880)Patrick Nowlan b. St. John's,
NF Sept 19, 1849. They emigrated to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where Margaret died
March 5, 1894. They had a least one son - Harry, b. December 12, 1888.
Michael died at sea November 15, 1884.
I can continue the Thomas Hackett line downwards, but became really
discouraged with continuing back into Ireland when I came across three
Tobias Hacketts - at least two of whom were contemporaries in Killenaule.
However - one of these days...
At least we know where in Ireland Tobias was born. My daughter visited
Killenaule and took pictures for me. It is a beautiful village in the
hills, but one could see why some of the sons would have to emigrate - even
before the major Potato Famine.
I would be interested in hearing from anyone who knows about Killenaule or
Tipperary Hacketts generally as well as anyone who recognizes the Tobias
Hackett line.
