Mark --
I guess my db isn't quite big enough -- don't have your ancestors in it from
what I can tell.

Do you know of any siblings of your grandfather?

I would go to the nearest Family History Center and request to use the Family
Search Program. The portion of Family Search I would search first would be
the Family History Library Catalog. This is a listing of all the holdings in
the Salt Lake City genealogy library. Search Darke Co., OH and see what kind
of vital records are available and for what time periods. Perhaps they will
even have birth records for this date [1886].
Have you checked the 1880 census for Darke County, OH? It's possible his
parents were there 6 years before his birth.

Did your grandfather stay in the Seattle, WA area for long? You could always
do a check on the 1900 census for the state of WA. If you know he was in WA,
but don't know which county, there's probably a soundex for Hackett available
in that census [which means all the names that sound like Hackett are grouped
together].

There's probably better ideas floating around out there. Good luck.
