I don't know when the links began to appear. LDS began putting
digitized copies of books online in, I believe, 2005. That project
(Family History Archives) is hosted on BYU's site, and includes books
in the BYU library, the FHL, and other church-owned libraries.

The Family History Archives are at:

http://www.lib.byu.edu/fhc/

I would imagine that links are being added as the corresponding
volumes appear online.
