In my genealogy program files one of my reference sources for a fairly large segment of the data pertaining to what most of you probably notice that I refer to as the "The Southern Rape Family" wherein my own direct lineage is found, is the name of James Weber Raye. Jim began a correspondance with me at some time a few months before August of 1995 and this continued up to only a few days before his death on 30 August 1995. Although we never met face to face and indeed I do not even have a photo of Jim, I am very happy that I was able to hear from Jim before he passed away.

One of the reasons I enjoyed hearing from Jim so much was that he was as passionate about our Reeb/Rape ancestry as I and he made no secret about this. We exchanged many letters and telephone conversations and so you can imagine how sad and difficult it was for me when James Weber Raye passed away. But as sad as I felt about it I could not but hold the highest of respect for this gentleman who seemed to accept the will of God and showed strength and courage in the face of death.

Jim often spoke of his niece and it is now my pleasure to welcome her, Myka Raye Brooks, to the the GUS-REEB list. I have asked Myka to post an e-mail to this list to introduce herself. Please join me and help make Myka feel welcome to this list. I am sure she will enjoy hearing from all of you and getting to know something of how everyone fits in the family tree.
