Subject: My Posts to the Gus-Reeb list

My hope is that the subscribers to the GUS-REEB list
will now offer me some suggestions and give me some
some feed back on the list. As most of you probably
remember at or near the time of the closing of the RFA
I was asked which list I would post on. At the time I
thought that much of the problems with the Reeb-Roots
list was due to confusion among many as the DNA study
indicated that all Reebs in this country and in Europe
do not have a common Reeb ancestor. The Reeb-Roots
list was designed for the purpose of all who trace
back to the Reeb surname and at the time it was
started we had no way of knowing that all might not be
related as we were short on documentation to prove
otherwise. However, the DNA study indicated that those
of us whose ancestry does trace back to the area
between the Vosges Mountains and the area located on
both banks of the Sarre River are related. This does
include the descendants of the brothers who have many
years been known by us as Peter Rape, Augustus Reap
and Michael Reeb (a.k.a. Reph)who we know were sons of
Gustavus Reeb. It also includes many who came to this
country and settled in certain areas who also trace
back to the same region in present day France. This
latter group does include many of the Reebs who
settled in Franklin County, Ohio (Columbus area); some
of the Reebs who settled in some parts of Illinois,
Nebraska, Wisconsin, New York, Butler County,
Pennsylvania, and possibly a few other places in
smaller numbers. While from time to time I may post
information which comes into my hands that does
pertain to Reebs which I know are not our kin but this
will only be done on the Reeb-Roots list not the
GUS-REEB List. Even there I will try to always alert
everyone that I am somewhat familiar with those
persons and that they are not "Keskastel Reebs,"
simply using that terminolgy as it seemed to be pretty
well understood on the Reeb-Roots list to mean the
area of our own ancestry.

However, my question to the subscribers of this
GUS-REEB List is this: Should I post information and
new findings which pertain to the other "Keskastel"
Reebs on the Gus-Reeb as well. In other words do you
want me to post that information only on the
REEB-ROOTS list and not this one. Again, I am not
talking about Reeb data which does not pertain to any
of our known distant relatives but simply those who
are known to be related to us as determined by DNA
study. At present my focus is on the Reebs who settled
in Columbus area (Franklin County), Ohio. I am
involved in ordering all the civil marriage records of
Franklin County. This is a large project as it was a
large county population wise and there have been many
sur-names added to the genealogy of the Reeb family
since the immigrant Reebs began arriving there from
Keskastel in the 184Os, 1850s and years after. For the
most part I like to post some of the information which
I find interesting. More than likely it will be my aim
to send the posts to the Reeb Roots list with an info
copy to the GUS-REEB list. If you receive these posts
and are just not interested you can always just hit
the delete key for those posts which pertained to
other than GUSTAVUS REEB descendants. However, I want
to hear if from you all as to what your preferences
are. Also I would like to hear other suggestions about
your likes and dislikes and this will be helpful in
the administering of this list.
So please give me some feed back and suggestions.

One other thing some of you who are subscribed to
REEB-ROOTS list have probably noticed (I don't know
how you could not have done so)that I have received
very very little rsponse to my posts to Reeb-Roots
list. I am very much aware of this because it is my
opinion that the success or failure of any e-mail list
depends upon the interest of the subscribers. Most who
are truly interested usually will respond and offer
opinions and welcome new information. I am sure that
all of you feel the same as I do and that is when
there is no response to my post I can't help but
wonder if I am offending everyone. I know at times my
comments are not short enough, not to the point
enough, and perhaps even boring or in some persons
view points even obnoxios. However it is really not my
desire to offend anyone. I admit to be opinionated and
sometimes too much so. For these shortcomings I regret
and while I am 71 years of age perhaps it is still not
too too late to improve. I will seek the help of our
Creator to do so.

Hope to hear feed back from all of you. By the way I
have not heard from our Raye cousin lately...is
anything wrong?

John V.
