No I quit fighting the civil war before I really got
started in it. Actually, I don't think there were any
real heros except some of the poor soldiers such as
one of my great grandfathers who was captured and
seriously wounded at Gettysburg and granted freedom by
the North and then sent back into battle and once
again wounded badly. I suppose I am lucky to just
being given life because he married my great
grandmother and they had a large family. He was my
mother's grandfather but died before she was born. My
maternal grandfather was the second to the youngest of
his children.
It seems funny now that the RFA has been stopped I am
now once again getting many queries and with these
some great information etc. In the past day or so I
have heard from a gentleman who traces back to an
Agness Reeb who was baptised (Christened) in 1656 in
the same branch of Reebs which Dr. Reeb descends from.
This is the first time I have ever heard from any of
her descendants. I had heard from a man a few years
ago who descends from the Agnes Reeb who was sister to
our Nicolaus Reeb...I think she was baptized in the
1630s. In that case the man and I did not even know he
was a descendant of her until after I began to help
him with his genealogy. His family had settled in
Columbus, Ohio from Keskastel and he had heard that I
had done research on many Keskastel families who
relocated to Columbus in the mid 1800s. Now this new
contact is also asking for help but in his case he
already had found the link to the other Agnes Reeb but
had some difficulty getting it all together.
I enjoy the resolving of mysteries that sometimes get
very interesting in genealogy more than anything else.
This man has also been to the scene and visited the
village of Herbitzheim just as Dr. Reeb and I had
done. In his case he had worked for some company in
Geneva for a couple of years and decided to go to
Strasbourg to search for his family history. It ended
with him actually going over to Herbitzheim. I found
it kind of nice that I had for some unknown reason
saved some of my research notes from the Herbitzheim
records and so I have a head start on his case. I was
amazed how he found me. He had been browsing the web
and somehow got led to some site where I had explained
about how only two families lived in Keskastel at one
time in history, they were the Reebs and the Fischers.
One of the Fischers was Jacob the mayor. That was his
clue that I might know something about his family. He
had only his direct line but had been unable to find
siblings for some of them. I can understand that as
the records in that village are difficult to follow.
But I do have a long list of siblings of his family
members for him.
I did look at the Reeb.org site yesterday. A lot has
been taken from it. Also some more has been added
which in my opinion should not be there as it is not
REEBS but it seems some people just can't believe that
all Rapes are not our family and all Rapes are not
REEB descendants. I know of at least three different
Rape original names who are not even related to us in
any way. One from Ireland, one Belgian, and one German
but not originally REEB. And then of course we now
know that Joyce Cockerall, Mike Reeb, and the Canadian
Reebs are not related to our family in any way. This
is proven not only in Documentation but also in DNA.
Oh, Did I tell you we had a big birthday party
yesterday. Tyler was ONE on the 28th. Of course he
does not care about birthdays yet.
