I think I owe quite a few people an apology for not
being able to keep all the promises I made about
providing more information on different branches of
the Rape family. I still remember that I promised to
provide more on the descendants of Archibald Rape,
including his oldest son, Thomas Jackson Rape. Also, I
have heard a couple of times from a gentleman who I am
not sure is a subscriber to this list, to provide him
with a couple of photos and data of his ancestor
Augustus Daniel Rape, the Drummer Boy during the civil
war, who it is said that he marched up and down the
roads of Tallapoosa Co. Alabama playing his drums in
an effort to help recruit soldiers for the
Confederacy. I have been tardy about sending two
different gentlemen who were interested in learning
more about their and my common ancestry...the
descendants of Archibald Rape. For all these failures
to keep my promises, I apologise. I am still hoping
that one day I can get caught up and find some time
and energy to keep those promises. The problem is that
I now live on what the people here refer to as Bay
Farm Island and do not have ready access to copy
machines, post office, and some of the other
conveniences I enjoyed in San Francisco.
Other than that I am very much involved in Reeb
genealogy. I am using this time to enter information
which had been piling up over the past two or three
years due to lack of time. I have also discovered a
good way to find information on the living Reeb and
Rape family members even when there are not records on
line such as found in California and Texas death
records and California Birth records still available
in ancestry.com. To me, much of the fun of genealogy
is filling in the gaps much like a crossword puzzle.
Also, I have been involved with some projects
assisting others who have some personal or family need
to search for information on Reeb family members.
One interesting comment I would like to pass on to you
all. Although, I am not at liberty to provide the
details publically, I have just found that one Reeb
descendant is still living at the age of 105 years.
Makes me feel like a kid at 71 and also, in a way,
provides hope for the future.
