Nancy,

>Can someone please explain to me who Viola, daughter of, John Wesley Haines
>was married to and if she had any children.

Viola Haines, b. 24 dec 1904 was born just over the river from Salem,
in Polk Co., Oregon, in the hunt family house, which her parents (John
Wesley Haines and Elizabeth Adeline Pape) were renting at the time.
That particular house is of some notoriety .. Viola told me she saw an
article written up on it in the early 1970s in the newspaper.

Anyway, she m(1) 19 Apr 1924 in Salem to Jess Wilson, and m(2) 29
Sep 1936 in Vancouver, Wash., to Gilbert Glover. Her four children are:

1. Edna Eileen Wilson
2. Eileen Glover, who was adopted. She married a Mr. Beaver. Last I
heard (Nov 1994) she was living in Roseville, Oregon.
3. Susan Glover, adopted, twin. As of Nov 1994 she was living in
Anchorage, Alaska.
4. Sandra Glover, adopted, twin. As of Nov 1994 living in Portland, Oregon.

The last time I talked to Viola was Nov 1994. She was almost 90 years old
at that time, and was just as bright as can be with absolutely no sign whatsoever
of any age-induced reduction of mental capacities. As far as I know, that
hasn't changed. She's living in Portland Oregon.

I don't have any more detailed info about her children. I guess I should follow
through on that.

- ------------------------------

For those who haven't yet placed who Viola is... She is the daughter of
John Wesley Haines, b. 27 Feb 1856 Springfield, Illinois, d. 18 May 1940
Silverton, Oregon, and Elizabeth Adeline "Lizzie" Pape, b. 19 Oct 1869 in
St. Louis, MO, d. 12 Feb 1962 Silverton, OR, who m. in 1886 or 1887.

John Wesley Haines is mentioned in the History of Sangamon Co., p. 594,
in 1876, where he was residing with his mother and step father in Cottonhill
Twp.

John Wesley Haines and Elizabeth Adeline Pape had: Grace, Verna, Goldie,
Clara, Viola, and Virgil. Virgil was adopted. Grace was my great grandmother.
Of these, Grace m. Frank Ellsworth Rappe; Verna m. William Bailey; Goldie
m. Abe Kennedy; Clara m(1). Arnold Will Cribbens, m(2) Roy Humbert;
Virgil m. Margaret (---).

John Wesley Haines's parents were Preston Haines, who enlisted in the
11th Missouri Infantry in 1861 and died 14 Feb 1863 in the Military Hospital
in Keokuk, Iowa, and Amanda Rape, b. 25 Oct 1835 Sangamon Co., Illinois,
m(1) 15 Aug 1852 Sangamon Co. to Preston Haines, m(2) 14 June 1871
Sangamon Co., to William T. Williams.

Amanda Rape had three children with Preston Haines: Nancy J., Amelia C.,
and John Wesley. With William T. Williams she had Martin L. Williams
bef 1876. She may have had more .. the most recent record for her that I have
collected is the bio in the History of Sangamon Co., 1876, so I really don't
have info yet on what she did after 1876 or when she died.

Amanda Rape was the dau. of John-4 Rape (Gustavus-3,Peter-2,Gustavus-1)
and Polly Dunn, who I've mentioned in a previous posting.
