I found my Charles Montegue GURNEY in Gravesend, Kent, Eng/UK in 1869 when
his son, Samuel Charles GURNEY, was born. By 1881 census Charles M's wife,
Ann Elizabeth who had been previously married, was listed as head of
household and a laundress in Gravesend, but there is no record of the
whereabouts of Charles M. No death record. Since Charles M was a shipping
clerk he may have decided to see the world---Australia ???.
Ann brought her family to Canada (c1885) and later to USA. My grandfather,
Samuel Charles GURNEY (mentioned above), became a medical doctor, served in
the Philippine Constabulary (1906-1917) and in AEF in WW I (in France). He
retired from US Army service as a Lt. Col. about 1935., He died in 1953 in
San Antonio, TX, USA.
The line up--
Charles Montegue GURNEY married Ann Elizabeth (Capon) EMEADES. Ann had a
son, James John EMEADES, by her first marriage, and two sons, Samuel Charles
and Henry A., by Charles M. GURNEY.
Currently, I have a friend in Kent looking for the GURNEY ancestry of Charles
M.
Anticipate hearng from you soon.
Best regards,
Hugh
