Dear List

I know of two clusters from my family who emigrated to the States in the C19th, and I thought it might be helpful to someone if I flagged up in outline what I know.

(1) Zechariah Graham born 1791, Abbots Ripton, Hunts emigrated to the States post 1825, probably 1831/2, leaving a wife and a number of children in England.
Zechariah settled, died and was buried in New York State; he contracted a bigamous second marriage there from which I believe there were issue.

His son William (1813 - 1895) also certainly went to the States, either with him, or shortly after. He settled in Warren County PA, married Betsey, and had one son, Lester (1841 - 1923), and 5 daughters. Lester is buried at Youngsville PA. He had three children, Naomi, Clement and William, of whom I know nothing more.

It is possible that Zechariah's son John b. Abbot's Ripton, Huntingdonshire, 1819 also emigrated with him or William.

Later Zechariah's daughter Sarah also emigrated to the States as Mrs. James Ladds. James Ladds and probably Sarah are buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Harmony NY. They had one son, William Graham Ladds, and 6 daughters.

(2) John Graham (nephew of Zecheriah) born c1801 emigrated to the States about 1851 at the head of quite a sizeable party from Wardy Hill/Coveny/Witchford, Cambs, including his wife Susannah and most of his children, and a number of others. William Minett and James Ward were certainly neighbours in England, and if they were not of the main party (it is possible Minett went ahead), certainly linked up with it in the States to the extent that they married Mary or Mary-Ann Graham and Maria Graham respectively. John and his wife both died within a year or so of reaching the States, but most of the rest of the party, including sons John, Charles, and Thomas, settled in Marshall, Richmond County, Wisconsin and are buried there in the English Ridge Cemetery.

I know of two cousins in the States (one almost certainly now dead). If any of the above appears to link with your own family history or traditions, please do contact me.
