The most common DNA test available measures patterns in the Y chromosome found in males only.It gets passed from father to son virtually unchanged over many generations. This is what makes it so easy to trace. The test available for women is a mitochondrial test and is better for deep, ancient ancestry. It's used for anthropology rather than genealogy.
If you find a male relative who carries the Graham name I would suggest going with FamilyTree DNA.I don't work for them nor am I a spokesman but I can give you more details if you want. Email me off-list.
