GORHAM FAMILY CEMETERY
1875 Newtown Pike This cemetery is located on government-owned land. It
is Coldstream Farm.

George Gorham was married twice: July 1, 1807 to Sarah/Sally
Graves[1] and September 18, 1808[2] to Nancy Graves, who is buried here.
His wives may have been sisters. [1] Fayette County Marriage Records:

This cemetery was noted to have been in "excellent condition" in
a 1979 Lexington Historic Preservation survey (FA 445). Ten gravesites were
listed. An earlier survey had, however reported some 20 identifiable
markers.

The first currently known recorded acknowledgment of the
cemetery is contained in a March 20, 1856, deed from Lewis H. Chrisman,
executor of the estate of Alexander Lyle to William Adams (DB 32-295):
".exclusive of seven poles of Land.a Family Graveyard."

The inventory for this cemetery was reported both by the Fayette
County Genealogical Society in v. 2, # 2, pp. 62-63, and in DAR
Inscriptions, pp. 80 & 86 & 120-124 (Lexington Public Library, Kentucky
Room).

*Cholera epidemic?

**One T. F. Gorham married Miss Emily E. Ross in Fayette County,
12/18/1856. Kentucky Marriages: 1797 - 1865. C. The Kentucky Historical
Society. Index copyright 1966. Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc. Some
surveyors have transcribed his first name as Thornton.

In the District 1 1850 federal census of Fayette County KY, Nancy Gorham was
the head of household. She was 60 years old. Included in the household
were:
G[eorge] M., age 34;
W[illiam?], age 27;
T . G./J?, age 25;
Andrew 17;
Hamblin, 14;
B. [male], 14;
S. A. [female] 23;
Prissilla [sic], 20,
and William Petry, 70, a "laborer."
